Travel support is available to attend the ICERM workshop: Advances in
PDEs: Theory, Computation and Application to CFD, which will take
place August 20-24, 2018 in Providence, RI, USA. The aim of this
workshop is to review the recent progress in the type of PDEs arising
from fluid dynamics and other related physical areas, in terms of
their theory, computation, and applications. The invited speakers
include PDE analysts, applied and computational mathematicians, and
engineers. Many of the invited speakers have made fundamental
contributions to the development of PDE numerical methods and
mathematical analysis as well as cutting edge applications. In harmony
with ICERM's mission, the most significant aspect of this workshop is
cutting-edge computational mathematics, and reinforcing the critical
role played by computation in the mathematical and experimental
aspects of fluid dynamics. This workshop aims to showcase recent
advances in the theory and computation of PDEs with applications in
CFD. It is thus an excellent vehicle to commemorate Professor Saul
Abarbanel, who has made fundamental contributions to fluid dynamics
and PDEs, especially in their computation and application to CFD. To
honor his memory, this workshop will focus on recent developments in
the field, highlighting the exchange of current research ideas and

numerical techniques for Cosmic Microwave Background data analysis.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in applied mathematics, high
performance computing background or computational physics and
expertise in at least one of the following:
- solvers of large linear systems of equations with help of new,
customized approaches suitable for massively parallel supercomputers
with particular emphasis on preconditioning techniques;
- large-scale optimization problems;
- massively parallel, high performance programming on heterogeneous
computational platforms;
- solutions to large scales I/O problems in the context of massively
parallel codes and huge data sets.

No formal background in physics is required.

The position is for up to two years with the starting date some time
in the fall of 2018. The approximate salary after the burden will be
on order of 2.4-2.9 kEuros per month, depending on candidate's
experience. The position comes with full benefits. Travel founds are
also allocated.

The candidate will work within the context of the ANR-funded B3DCMB
project, which gathers cosmologists, physicists, applied
mathematicians, high performance computing experts, and statisticians
and aims at a development of novel, high performance numerical methods
and tools for cosmic microwave background analysis. S/he will be
formally attached to the APC Laboratory and the group of cosmologists
and physicists based there. However, arrangements can be made that
s/he spends significant fractions of his/her time at the INRIA-Paris
to work directly with computer scientists/applied mathematicians from

An industrially funded 3-year PhD position is available which will be
jointly supervised by EDF R&D (French Electricity Company, Palaiseau),
ISAE- SUPAERO and Cerfacs (Toulouse).

The project focuses on iterative solution techniques for thermo-hydro-
mechanical problems (THM). We are interested in the behaviour of a
weakly compressible fluid flowing in a soil, represented as a porous
medium. This problem is called the Biot's consolidation or
poroelasticity problem and it is used for studying galleries of
underground storage. For example, we seek to achieve the numerical
modelling of two crossing galleries. This simulation remains difficult
today mainly for reasons of the numerical performance of 3D
poromechanical calculations.

Requirements: MSc degree or equivalent with a background in one or
several of the following topics: engineering, computational mechanics,
high performance computing, numerical methods, applied

- The design of exact and heuristics algorithms for routing problems
