The Hidden Symmetries and Fusion Energy project is seeking a
scientific software developer. Our multi-institution initiative,
funded by the Simons Foundation, is working to build a mathematical
and computational foundation for the design of stellarators for
magnetic plasma confinement. Our team is highly multidisciplinary;

The central responsibility of the software developer will be to
develop the SIMSOPT software infrastructure, providing interfaces to
multiple physics codes and optimization libraries. As part of this
work, the new developer will be expected to incorporate testing
frameworks and write code documentation. The project may also include
modernization of some existing physics codes, for example integrating
new boundary element solvers written by other team members. The
location for the position is flexible, but it would be based at one of
the collaboration's member institutions, such as the University of

Fortran, C++, and python, so candidates must be proficient in these
languages, and knowledge of mixed-language programming is an

(UofM) invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position in
Analysis (with the possibility of renewal for a third year-pending

to candidates in ergodic theory or functional analysis, especially
those whose research programs and interests are compatible with
current UofM faculty in those two areas.

Applications are invited for 14 PhD positions ("Early Stage
Researchers") to be funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative
Training Network "Joint Training on Numerical Modelling of Highly
Flexible Structures for Industrial Applications [THREAD]" within the
Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission.

THREAD is a consortium of 12 high-profile universities, research
institutions and companies located in Austria, Belgium, Croatia,
France, Germany, Norway, Slovenia and Spain, and addresses the
mechanical modelling, mathematical formulations and numerical methods
for highly flexible slender structures like yarns, cables, hoses or
ropes that are essential parts of high performance engineering
systems. The project brings mechanical engineers and mathematicians
together around major challenges in industrial applications and
open-source simulation software development.

It establishes an innovative modelling chain starting from detailed 3D
modelling and experimental work to build validated 1D nonlinear rod
models, which are then brought to a system level simulation thanks to
the outstanding numerical properties of the developed algorithms. This
holistic approach combines advanced concepts in experimental and
theoretical structural mechanics, non-smooth dynamics, computational
geometry, discretisation methods and geometric numerical integration.

The 14 researchers are employed on fixed-term, full-time employment
contracts and will work on their own research projects in THREAD with
the aim to obtain a doctoral degree. The salary is paid in accordance
with the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Programme regulations for Early Stage
Researchers. Funding for 36 months employment is available.
